I Francis Aldworth of Wantage in the County of Berks Grocer being of a sound and disposing mind and memory do make this my last Will and Testament in manner following (that is to say) I give and devise unto my Son Charles Aldworth All that my Messuage or Tenement Garden and Premises with the Appurtenances now in his occupation situate lying and being in Mill Street in Wantage aforesaid And also all that Orchard commonly called Taylors Orchard situate lying and being in the Parish of Wantage aforesaid containing by estimation about three Acres And also all those Messuages or Tenements situate lying and being in Mill Street in Wantage aforesaid with the Gardens and Appurtenances thereunto respectively belonging or therewith used now in the several occupations of John Plumbe, Luke Pigott, William Sugar, Thomas Sparkes, John Jones, Widow Symons, John Wills, John Gregory and Thomas Horton To hold the said last mentioned Messuages or Tenements Gardens Orchard and Premises with their respective Appurtenances unto my said Son Charles Aldworth and his Assigns for and during the term of his natural life and from and after his decease I give and devise the same and every part and parcel thereof unto and to the use of my Grandsons Francis Charles Aldworth, Charles Francis Aldworth and Alfred Henry Aldworth and all and every other Child and Children of my said Son Charles Aldworth lawfully begotten as shall be living at or born in due time after his decease and their respective Heirs as Tenants in common and not as Joint Tenants And I do hereby acquit release and discharge my said Son Charles Aldworth from all and every sum and sums of money debt & debts whatsoever which shall any ways appear to be due owing or payable from him to me at the time of my decease And I do hereby also direct and order my Trustees & Executors hereinafter named at any time after my decease Upon the request of my said Son his Heirs executors or administrators to deliver up to him or them all Bonds Notes or other Vouchers or Securities given or to be given by my said Son to me for the securing the payment of any Sum or Sums of money debt or debts to the intent the same may be cancelled or made void Also I give and bequeath unto my said Son Charles Aldworth all my Goods Chattels Stock in Trade Furniture and Fixtures now in and about the Messuage or Tenement and Premisses in his occupation I give unto my daughter Ann Maria Aldworth All my Household Goods Household Linnen Furniture Plate China and other Ware and Fixtures now in and about the Messuage or Tenement and Premisses in my own occupation situate in Newbury Street in Wantage aforesaid Also I give and devise unto my daughter Ann Maria Aldworth All that Messuage or Tenement Garden Malthouse and Stable situate in Mill Street in Wantage aforesaid late in the occupation of Charles Day And also all those Orchards containing together by estimation two Acres and a halfe more or less situate lying and being near to the said Messuage or Tenement now in my occupation or possession with their respective Appurtenances Also I give and devise unto my said Daughter Ann Maria Aldworth all those my Messuages or Tenements situate lying and being in Mill Street in Wantage aforesaid with the Gardens and appurt[enances] thereunto respectively belonging or therewith enjoyed now in the several occupation of Peter Woodward, Thomas Williams, Widow Piggot and William Smith and also all those two Cottages or Tenements lately erected and Built with the Gardens thereunto belonging situate lying and being near to the said last mentioned Messuages or Tenements And also all that Messuage or Tenement Garden and Premises situate in Mill Street aforesaid now in the occupation of George Snow To hold the said Messuages Cottages or Tenements Gardens Orchards and Premises with their respective Appurtenances unto my said daughter Ann Maria Aldworth and her assigns for and during the term of her natural life And from and after her decease I give and devise the same and every part thereof unto and to the use of all and every the Child and Children of my said daughter Ann Maria Aldworth lawfully begotten and their respective Heirs as Tenants in common and not as Joint Tenants But in case my said daughter Ann Maria Aldworth shall happen to die without any Child or Children lawfully begotten then I do give and devise the said Messuages Cottages or Tenements Gardens Orchards and Premises unto my Grand Sons Francis Charles Aldworth, Charles Francis Aldworth and Alfred Henry Aldworth equally to be divided between them share and share alike and to their respective Heirs as Tenants in common and not as joint Tenants I give and devise unto my daughter Charlotte the Wife of John Plumbe All those my Messuages or Tenements situate lying and being in Cat Street and Stills Yard in Wantage aforesaid with the Gardens and Appurtenances thereunto respectively belonging or therewith enjoyed now in the several occupations of Edward Palmer, Robert Belcher, Widow Martin Richard Thornhill, William Green, John Bishop, Richard Mitchell, John Giles, William Sneath, Jonas Barnard, Widow Broad, Sarah Midwinter, Richard Thornhill the younger and John Smart To hold the said Messuages or Tenements Gardens and Premises with their respective Appurtenances unto my said daughter Charlotte Plumbe and her assigns for and during the term of her natural life and from and after her decease I give and devise the same and every part and parcel thereof unto and to the use of all and every the Child and Children of my said daughter Charlotte Plumbe and their respective heirs as Tenants in common & not as joint Tenants I give and devise unto my said daughter Sophia the Wife of James Milsum All that my Messuage or Tenement situate lying and being near the Market Place in Wantage aforesaid with the Garden and Appurtenances thereunto belonging or therewith enjoyed now in the occupation of the said James Milsum And also all those my Messuages or Tenements situate lying and being in Grove Street in Wantage aforesaid with the Gardens and Appurtenances thereunto respectively belonging or therewith enjoyed now in the several occupations of Joseph Durdin, Joseph Barnard, Benjamin Miller, William Cox and William Middleton To hold the said Messuages or Tenements Gardens and Premises unto my said daughter Sophia Milsum and her Assigns for and during the term of her natural life and from and after her decease I give and devise the same and every part thereof unto and to the use of all and every the Child and Children of my said daughter Sophia Milsum and their respective heirs as Tenants in common and not as joint Tenants I give and devise unto my Grandchildren Henry Deane & Catharine Deane all that piece or parcel of Meadow or Pasture Ground called the Horse Head piece situate lying and being near to or adjoining a Close of Meadow or Pasture Ground called High Garston in the Parish of Wantage aforesaid containing by estimation one Acre more or less now in the occupation of William Snow To hold the said piece or parcel of Meadow or pasture Ground with the Appurtenances unto and to the use of my said Grandchildren Henry Deane and Catharine Deane their respective heirs and assigns as Tenants in common and not as joint Tenants I give and bequeath unto my said Son Charles Aldworth & my daughters Ann Maria Aldworth Charlotte the Wife of John Plumbe and Sophia the Wife of James Milsum All my Canal shares or Securities secured upon the Wilts and Berks Canal Navigation equally to be divided between them share and share alike And Whereas my Son in Law James Milsum may have a Bill or demand on me for Goods purchased by me of him And Whereas the said James Milsum is indebted to me for a considerable arrear of rent for the Messuage and Premises in his occupation Now in case the said James Milsum his executors or administrators do not make any demand of my ex[ecut]ors for Goods sold and delivered by him to me I do hereby acquit and discharge him his executors and administrators of and from all arrears of Rent which shall or may be due and owing from him to me at the time of my decease I give and devise unto my Son Charles Aldworth and my Sons in Law John Plumbe and James Milsum All and every other my Messuages Lands Tenements and Heredit[iment]s situate lying and being in the several Parishes of Wantage Letcomb Bassett and Letcomb Regis in the County of Berks and elsewhere in the Kingdom of Great Britain Also I give and bequeath unto them the said Charles Aldworth John Plumbe and James Milsum All my Book debts ready money and Securities for money and all other my personal Estate and Effects whatsoever and wheresoever not hereinbefore by me disposed of To hold the same and every part and parcel thereof unto the said Charles Aldworth John Plumbe and James Milsum their heirs executors administrators and assigns Upon Trust that they the said Charles Aldworth John Plumbe and James Milsum and the survivors and survivor of them and the heirs executors and administrators of such survivor do and shall as soon as conveniently may be after my decease sell and dispose of all and singular my said Messuages Lands Tenements personal Estate and Effects so hereby devised and bequeathed (save such parts thereof as consists of money or Securities for money) either together or in parcels and by public Auction or by private Contract for the most money they can get for the same and collect in and receive all monies that shall be due and owing to me at the time of my decease And as to the monies arising by or from such Sale or Sales and that shall otherwise come to their or either of their hands by virtue of this my Will In Trust to pay apply and dispose of the same in manner following that is to say In Trust to pay all my just debts Funeral and Testamentary expenses And then upon Trust to pay retain and equally divide the residue and remainder of the said Trust monies unto and between him the said Charles Aldworth and my said daughters Ann Maria Aldworth Charlotte the Wife of the said John Plumbe and Sophia the Wife of the said James Milsum equally share and share alike to their respective executors and administrators And I do declare and direct that the receipt or receipts of the said Charles Aldworth John Plumbe and James Milsum or of the survivors or survivor of them or the heirs executors or administrators of such survivor shall from time to time be a good and sufficient discharge and good and sufficient discharges to the purchaser or purchasers of the said real Estate so to be sold as aforesaid or any part thereof and to his her and their respective heirs executors administrators or assigns for so much of the purchase money as shall be therein acknowledged to be received & that such purchaser or purchasers his her or their heirs executors administrators or assigns shall not afterwards be answerable or accountable for any loss misapplication or nonapplication of such purchase money so received or any part thereof And I do declare that my said Trustees their respective heirs executors and administrators by and out of the monies which by virtue of this my Will shall come to their or either of their hands to deduct and retain to and reimburse themselves all such costs charges and expenses as they or any of them shall or may sustain expend or be put unto in or about the execution of the Trusts hereby in them reposed And also that they my said Trustees their heirs executors or administrators shall be charged and chargeable only each of them for his own respective receipts payments and wilful defaults & not otherwise and shall not be charged with any sum or sums of money other than such as shall actually and respectively come to his or their hands by virtue of these presents Nor with any loss or damage which may happen by the insolvency or insufficiency of any person or persons Security or Securities to whom or upon which the said Trust monies or any part thereof shall or may be lent or placed out Nor with any other loss or damage which may happen in the execution of this my Will And I do hereby nominate and appoint them the said Charles Aldworth John Plumbe and James Milsum joint Executors of this my last Will and Testament In Witness whereof I the said Francis Aldworth the Testator have to each sheet of this my last Will and Testament contained in five sheets of paper set my hand and seal this twenty ninth day of November in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and thirty. Proved at London 26th January 1833 before the Judge by the Oaths of Charles Aldworth the Son John Plumbe and James Milsum the Executors to whom Admin[istrati]on was granted having been first sworn by Commission duly to administer.
