High Street

Wells-next-the-Sea; Norfolk, England

This photograph of High Street is taken from the top, near the intersection with Station Road, looking down towards St. Nicholas Church. The street is quite quiet nowadays, with most commercial activity moved to the quayside. In the 19th century, this street was mostly shops (Edward Tyzack has his hairdressing and perfumery store at no. 21, the blue door third on the left) with the shopkeepers' families living above. Today all the buildings have been converted into homes.
