Mary was born on 20 November 1843 in Kings Norton district, Staffordshire, England, and baptised on 21 January 1844 in North Harborne, Staffordshire, the daughter of Benjamin Bowley and Mary Ann Blewitt. Mary Ann was a bookkeeper. She died on 7 June 1929, st 26 Mitchell Road, Durban, aged 86. The cause of death is listed as arterio sclerosis, valvular incompetence of heart and rheumatism.
