Children: Notes: In the will of Thomas's son-in-law, John Simmons Plumbe, dated 20 April 1853 and proved on 18 April 1854 (The National Archives PROB 11/2190/167), mention is made of the late Thomas Simmons who had sold land to John Simmons Plumbe's father, John Plumbe, and associated with the transaction, provision is made for the "Widow Mrs Mary Simmons". Perhaps Mary was a second wife of Thomas?
All of which said last mentioned Hereditaments and premises were devised by the late Thomas Simmons to my late father and by him devised to me and were by the said Thomas Simmons made subject to the charge of Seven hundred and fifty pounds To hold the same messuage or tenement workshops timber yard cottages garden ground land and Hereditaments unto the said William Plumbe and Ann the Wife of the said Alfred Ive their heirs and assigns as tenants in common freed and discharged from the payment of the said sum of Seven hundred and fifty pounds charged thereon by the said Thomas Simmons as aforesaid and payable thereout at the death of the said Widow Mrs Mary Simmons and which said sum of Seven hundred and fifty pounds I direct to be paid by my Executors out of my personal estate as hereinafter is mentioned but subject to the rent of thirty pounds payable to the said Mary Simmons during her life
